Space Photos of the Day: Highburton, West Yorkshire-resident Robert Harrison captured these striking images of Earth from 116k feet using a helium balloon, a radio transmitter, a digital camera, and some duct tape.
“My family and friends thought I was a bit mad at first but they were suitably impressed with the results,” Harrison, who launched his jury-rigged spaceship from his backyard, was quoted as saying. “The pictures speak for themselves. People think this is something that costs millions but it doesn’t.”
Both NASA and the newly-launched UK Space Agency have reportedly contacted Harrison in hopes of learning from the extraordinarily cost-effective nature of his project.

Had a hunch about this, I did some googling and confirmed it. Radio transmitter? Two Words: Amateur Radio. Harrison is 2E0RJH.
Totally bringing this up in my QuahogCon presentation.
