idiosyncratic-routine: via BoingBoing A seemingly innocuous new update to the PC version of [Portal] … caused players to note that each section of the game had been updated with a new radio object… containing pirate transmissions that are in fact SSTV encoded photographs — the same used by shortwave operators to transmit images over the air — each watermarked with the Aperture Science logo to stem any doubt about their authenticity. “Those are some weird SSTV images… Wait. Why the heck is Amber posting SSTV images?” *reads* “Ah…” Obviously, some amateur radio op has to be a Portal nut, as I don’t think anyone else even knows what SSTV is (Sounds like Scottie-2 encoding!). Now I want to play this game even more.
